Questions
At the moment you, like most people, are slightly overwhelmed by all these terms, acronyms and buzz-words that you are encountering in your foray into blogging. Worry not though, we at Blogoid have put together a list which should help and make things a bit clearer to you.
The list contains words, terms and acronyms that have relevance in the world of blogging. Don’t forget, if you want to skip all this and ask us directly, you can contact us here –> CLICK ME!
- Blog - A Blog (full name “web-log”) is an online journal where you can post your thoughts, ramblings, complaints, anything. The content on a blog is generally accessible by anyone.
- Domain name - A Domain name is a unique address for your web page. For example, www.blogoid.co.za is a domain name. These domain names are registered with the body governing the Internet.
- SEO – Stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. In the world of blogs, page views and readership is [almost] everything. SEO involves optimizing the code on your website/blog and the content on your website/blog to make it show up in search engines when users search for specific terms. This means that more people visit your blog and read your content.
- Advertising- Sure you know what this means, but do you necessarily know what it means in the world of blogs? Many bloggers in the Blogosphere are making piles of money from their blogs. This is because their blogs display adverts. Every time a user visits the blog, they view the advert because it is on the page. The blogger will then earn revenue from these views, and can earn much more if the user clicks on one of the adverts.
- Hosting- Every website on the Internet is actually just a bunch of files on a computer somewhere in the world. So, it stands to reason that if you want to have a website you are going to have to pay for the services of a company that has these computers and the infrastructure necessary to serve your website/blog to Internet users worldwide.
- Web 2.0- This is just a name for the new web technologies and ideals that are currently popular on the Internet. For example, the sharing of content is a Web 2.0 ideal. To read a better explanation, click here.
Of course this list isn’t comprehensive enough to cover all the buzz-words and acronyms floating around currently, but it hopefully has helped you gain a better understanding of the Internet.
